Bawku (U/E), Aug. 22, GNA – Akuafo Nketewa Company Limited, a subsidiary of the Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana, has donated food items to final-year students of the Bawku Senior High School (SHS) and the Bawku Senior High Technical School.
At separate ceremonies for the donation, each of the schools received 25 fifty-kilogram bags of maize, 25 fifty-kilogram bags of rice, 10 fifty-kilogram bags of beans, and 10 gallons of 10-litre cooking oil.
The donation, which formed part of the company's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), aimed at supporting candidates preparing for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) amidst challenges posed by the protracted Bawku conflict.
In a speech delivered by Mr. Charles Adakudugu Abugri on behalf of Dr. Charles Kwowe Nyaaba, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company, he said the gesture was not only to support the schools but also to call for peace in Bawku and the region.
He noted that the conflict in the area has greatly affected business operations, disrupted farming activities, and disturbed academic work.
“Without peace, businesses cannot thrive, and academic work will continue to suffer. We want to encourage you, the candidates, to stay focused, disciplined, and committed to your studies. We are confident you will excel and make your families, communities, and Ghana proud,” he said.
Rev. Abugbila Bukari, Headmaster of Bawku SHS, expressed appreciation for the support, describing the donation as a timely intervention that would serve as a buffer for the school.
“The thought and sacrifice behind this gesture mean a lot to us. This food will be reserved to support us in times of need as we prepare towards our crucial exams,” he said.
He further appealed to the company to consider partnering with the school in sorghum production, noting that Bawku SHS has over 10 acres of cultivable land, while he personally has about four acres available for joint farming.
On behalf of the students, Master Kolan Eric, the school Prefect, also expressed gratitude, saying the donation was not only about food but also a show of solidarity for the recent loss of their colleague.
“You mourned with us in our loss and stood by us. We are grateful for your love, your sympathy, and your support. We pray for God’s blessings upon your business and all your endeavours,” he said.
At the Bawku Senior High Technical School, Mr. Bukari Abdulai, the Headteacher, described the donation as a booster to the school's food stock.
He said, “This donation could not have come at a better time considering our final-year students are preparing for their exams and will need extra energy to keep them going. This requires the food that has been donated to us, and we are sincerely grateful.”
Miss Abigail Ayine Akolgo, the Girls’ Prefect of the Bawku Senior High Technical School, also thanked the company for the gesture, adding, “By your kindness, we are motivated and inspired to take our studies seriously and make our nation proud by staying out of trouble and passing our exams.”
