This past December, Akuafo Nketewa partnered with Ghana’s Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) for the 2025 National Farmers’ Day, an initiative that transcended a mere ceremonial event. It was a strategic intervention designed to elevate the status of sorghum farmers, celebrate their vital contributions, and, crucially, foster a culture of excellence that will secure the future of sorghum production in the Upper East Region.

The Unseen Challenge: Valuing the Backbone of Agriculture

Akuafo Nketewa’s participation in the 2025 National Farmers’ Day was a meticulously planned resolution to this challenge. The company identified and honored twelve exceptional sorghum farmers across four key districts, Pusiga, Tempane, Kassena Nankana Municipal, and Kassena Nankana East. These farmers were selected not just for their yields but for their unwavering commitment to quality output and reliability of supply. The recognition extended across three crucial categories:

Male District Best Sorghum Farmer: Recognizing outstanding male farmers for excellence in sorghum production.
Female District Best Sorghum Farmer: Celebrating the vital contributions of women in our farming communities, with 5 out of the 12 honorees being female.
District Best Sorghum Lead Farmer: Honoring farmers who go beyond personal production to mentor and support their peers, embodying community leadership.

The awards themselves were chosen for their practical impact: eight double-door refrigerators were presented to the Male and Female District Best Sorghum Farmers, while four tarpaulins were awarded to the Lead Farmers. In a powerful display of collaborative spirit, MoFA complemented these gifts in the Pusiga District with additional items, amplifying the message of appreciation.
